PBA: SMB loss sets up another Manila Clasico playoffs
Following San Miguel Beer’s loss Wednesday, the Ginebra-Magnolia showdown for round 1 of the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup playoffs is finally set.

For the third straight conference, it’s Manila Clasico playoffs in the PBA.

Following San Miguel Beer’s loss Wednesday, the Ginebra-Magnolia showdown for round 1 of the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup playoffs is finally set.

As of press time, the Hotshots are still playing TNT but regardless of the results, Magnolia is the no. 5 seed in the mid-season joust.

A win against the KaTropa puts Magnolia at 6-5, ahead of San Miguel and Rain or Shine. Even if the Hotshots lose and there’s a triple tie at 5-6, Magnolia still holds the superior quotient.

And so, the 4-5 first round match-up between the defending champion Gin Kings and the Hotshots will officially start Saturday at the MOA Arena. The series will be a best-of-3 affair.

While Ginebra holds a Manila Clasico winning streak in the elimination round, playoff success belongs to Magnolia.

The Hotshots dethoned the Gin Kings in the 2018 Governors’ Cup semifinals, 3-1, on their way to a title. Magnolia then overcame a series deficit to eliminate Ginebra early in the 2019 Philippines CUp quarterfinals, 2-1, on its way to another Finals run.
