It has been quite a conference for Northport in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
The Batang Pier traded their star guard for more complimentary pieces, found an import that fits, and banked on the development of its new star guard to put together a strong 9-2 record and enter the playoffs as the league’s no. 2 seed.
Northport’s prize? A first round showdown against San Miguel Beer.
Good thing the Batang Pier hold a twice-to-beat advantage, which never hurts to have against the Beermen.
San Miguel has dominated the PBA since 2015 but a weakness for the Beermen has beeen staring at a playoff disadvantage to start the playoffs. They’re certainly vulnebrable now and it’s the perfect time to pounce on the part of Northport.
Northport will have a good team featuring Sean Anthony, Kevin Ferrer, Sol Mercado, Mo Tautuaa, rookie Robert Bolick, and import Prince Ibeh. This Batang Pier squad is ready to break out that’s for sure.
However, the Beermen can never be counted out regardless of seeding but import play could be something to look into on the part of San Miguel.
After a hot start with Chris McCullough, the Beermen barely escaped Rain or Shine and dropped another close one to Meralco entering the playoffs. San Miguel has little room for error against the Batang Pier.
The Northport-San Miguel clash will on 6:45 p.m. Sunday at the Big Dome. The Batang Pier advance with a win while a one-game knockout, if necessary, will be on Wednesday if the Beermen pick up a W.
