PBA: Woes pile up for Calvin Abueva

Oh Calvin.

The woes just keep piling up for Phoenix’s enigmatic forward as Calvin Abueva was caught playing in an unsanctioned ligang labas in Rizal recently.

That’s a problem because PBA players can’t play in such leagues unless otherwise cleared by their respective mother teams.

Phoenix obviously gave no such clearance and to make matters worse, Abueva is still serving his indefinite suspension slapped by the PBA.

“The Phoenix Pulse Fuel Masters are deeply disappointed upon learning of Calvin Abueva's participation in an unsanctioned ‘ligang labas’ game in Montalban, Rizal,” the team said in a statement.

“The team has spoken to Calvin previously and agreed that the cager will use this idle time to reflect on his character while working out on his own both physically and mentally to ready himself for his eventual return once his suspension is lifted,” the team added.

Phoenix also stated that Abueva was in violation of team rules and will deal with the problem internally.

This will not be the first time that the Fuel Masters had to discipline Calvin. Before Abueva was ultimately suspended by the PBA, Phoenix slapped the Beast with a P20,000 fine for his incident with the girlfriend of Blackwater’s Ray Parks.

“This news is not only breach to team policies and rules, but also a stark contrast of how we wish to exude our players, especially Calvin,” Phoenix said in a statement.

“An internal fine will be imposed on him for these actions. Any further incidents will be dealt with more severity,” the team added.
