Robert Bolick and NorthPort gave San Miguel all they had
With NorthPort trailing San Miguel in their do-or-die matchup, Wednesday at Araneta Coliseum, the former put the ball in Robert Bolick's hands.
The third overall pick in the 2019 PBA Draft had 11 seconds to make something happen for the Batang Pier, but his triple try was contested by Beerman Arwind Santos and only hit the front of the rim.
After the final buzzer sounded, all Bolick could do was slump on the floor - even repeating the position after teammates and opponents alike were already helping him stand up.
Post-game, the ever-competitive playmaker was somber. "We did our best. Sakit. I really thought we had this game," he told reporters.
Nonetheless, he had nothing but praise for their conquerors. "We almost had it, but they're the champs for a reason," he said.
While they were at the losing end, however, nobody can take away the fact that NorthPort took San Miguel to the limit - yes, the upstarts gave the powerhouse all they had. "But I'm pretty sure we have their respect. Yun ang importante, 'di na kami pushover ngayon," Bolick shared.
He then continued, "I think they respect us more now. We didn’t give up."
In particular, the pride of San Beda University has wasted no time in proving he belongs in the PBA - contributing 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals.in Game 2 and collecting 20 markers and six dimes in Game 1 of the quarterfinals.
More importantly, he has proved to be unafraid of living up to being "Big Shot Bolick" as, with their conference on the line, the Batang Pier put their fate in his hands. "Yun yung paborito ko e. I live for those moments, game-winning shots. Gusto ko yung pressure, it keeps me motivated," he said.
He then continued, "I think I really did pretty well sa endgame. I had a bad game, but I kept fighting. Binigay ko talaga lahat."
Now, Bolick and his teammates go back to the drawing board to gear up for the next conference.
And there, he has no doubt they will only be better. As he put it, "At least we showed toughness. We were right there, just couldn't fiinish the ball game."
He then continued, "Ganun talaga, part of the experience ng team namin. Maybe next conference diba, kaya na namin umangat sa semis."
