Arwind Santos showed up when it mattered most for San Miguel in their do-or-die matchup opposite NorthPort
To make the semifinals of the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup, San Miguel had to overcome a higher-seeded and twice-to-beat opponent.
They did just that, discarding NorthPort’s playoff incentive and then dispatching of them in the do-or-die game, Wednesday at Araneta Coliseum.
For stalwart Arwind Santos, this was yet another golden opportunity for the Beermen to show just what they’re made of. "Masarap din yung feeling sa no. 7 spot dahil minsan, yun yung lesson na nasa baba ka man, pagka ginusto mo at pinangarap mo, makukuha mo yun," he told reporters.
And without a doubt, they made the most out of the golden opportunity.
By sinking the Batang Pier, SMB is only the second seventh-seed to get the better of the second-seed.
"We are so lucky to get back sa semifinals because we were struggling since the start of the conference," head coach Leo Austria said. "We're so happy to make it in spite of being no. 7 at the end of eliminations."
Now, Santos and company are headed to another matchup opposite another higher-seeded opponent in either third-seed Blackwater or sixth-seed Rain or Shine. "Kahit sino sa kanilang dalawa kasi kailangan pa rin naming paghandaan. Ang maganda rito, tumataas na yung confidence namin at yung conditioning, nakukuha na namin," he shared.
He then continued, "Pagka ganoon ang nangyari, magiging maganda ang flow namin hanggang Finals na."
