TNT rode Terrence Jones all the way to a semifinals showdown with Ginebra
For six quarters in their 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup quarterfinals matchup opposite Alaska, TNT had a tough time getting going.
Only, the KaTropa finally connected in the last two periods in their do-or-die game, Wednesday at Araneta Coliseum and came out on top of the pesky Aces for a 104-93 decision.
Just like Game 1, top-seeded TNT fell victim to Alaska's strong start and found itself trailing by as much as 15.
Behind Best Import frontrunner Terrence Jones, however, they regrouped and battled back into a close contest.
And with the tally tied at 87-all inside the last eight minutes, an inside basket from Jones set off an 8-2 run that put up a 95-89 advantage in favor of the KaTropa.
The Aces would pull to just within five, 90-95, only to see the former NBA player keep them at bay once and for all by making good on a cold-blooded triple and then making good on 9-of-10 free throws.
In the end, Jones had 37 points, 22 rebounds, and nine assists.
As he returned to form, TNT also rebounded mightily all the way to a semifinals showdown with Ginebra.
Flanking him in this one were Troy Rosario and Jayson Castro as the former finished with 20 points, seven rebounds, and two assists and the latter ended with 17 markers and six dimes.
Don Trollano and RR Pogoy also added 14 and 12 points, respectively, to help the top-seeded KaTropa avoid getting upset by eighth-seeded Alaska.
Simon Enciso paced the Aces with 24 points while American reinforcement Diamon Simpson posted a 19-marker, 16-rebound double-double.
