I played a tough game, played a hard game. We just didn’t win the game -- Chris McCullough
San Miguel Beer’ Chris McCullough wasn’t surprised with his career night Wednesday when he torched the nets for 51 points.
“I’m capable of doing that, that’s it,” he said.
McCullough started off his night with just seven points in the first 12 minutes. Then he poured 24 in the second period to enter the half with 31 points before adding 20 more in the second half.
But all of the Beermen workhorse’s effort on offense was spoiled by Rain or Shine as the Elasto Painters avoided a shutout after taking Game 3 of the best-of-five 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinals series, 112-104, at the Big Dome.
McCullough shot 18-of-32 from the field and grabbed 14 rebounds in an exhausting outing that saw him take only three minutes of rest the whole match.
“I’m not gonna say it’s wasted,” said McCullough of his career game. “I played a tough game, played a hard game. We just didn’t win the game.”
San Miguel went down by 18 points, 19-37, in the second quarter but unlike its Game 2 comeback from a 29-point deficit, the Beermen came up short of completing a series sweep.
Not even McCullough was able to save San Miguel.
Down 104-107 with 34.2 seconds remaining in the ballgame, McCullough had a chance to trim the Elasto Painters’ lead from the shaded lane but was denied from the back by Gabe Norwood. McCullough was called for a traveling before Beau Belga gave RoS a two-possession lead, 110-104, off a triple with 11.2 ticks left as the Elasto Painters held on to seal the win.
“I don’t know, bad calls maybe? We just didn’t finish the game,” said McCullough.
SMB has a day to prepare to try and finish off RoS in Game 4 on Friday.
“I think everybody needs to lock in. Once you step in the arena, you know, lock in. Just get ready, prepare for the game. Go to practice tomorrow, prepare for the game on Friday, that’s it,” said McCullough.
