In Game 1 of the 2019 Commissioner’s Cup Finals Sunday, Jimmy, now a San Miguel assistant coach, played against his former team for the first time ever in the title round.
It’s been a good four years since Jimmy Alapag left TNT and yet his name remains synonymous with the franchise.
All seven of the KaTropa’s championships were won with Alapag involved directly.
In Game 1 of the 2019 Commissioner’s Cup Finals Sunday, Jimmy, now a San Miguel Beer assistant coach, played against his former team for the first time ever in the title round.
The KaTropa scored a masterful win.
While they’re on opposite sides now and Alapag will help the Beermen scheme against his former teammates, Jimmy says his history with TNT is safe.
“You know, my time with Talk ’N Text, for the 12 and a half years that I was there doesn’t change. You don’t take away the [seven] championships we won, you don’t take away the memories that we built there. But you know, life goes on,” Alapag said.
“And as of right now, I’m here with San Miguel, so I’m doing what I can in my capacity to help the team,” he added.
For Game 2 and beyond, Alapag guarantees that San Miguel will be better.
And as a true Beerman now, Jimmy has a job to do with San Miguel. If that means keeping TNT with still no championships without him then so be it.
“We have to adjust. You know, kahit sinong natalo, yung first game, it’s up to that team to go on and make adjustments. We have two days to prepare for Game 2 and we just have to be much better than we were [in Game 1],” Alapag said.
“It’s business. You know, there’s a job to be done,” he added.
