In two conferences for San Miguel Beer, Terrence Romeo has learned to accept his role with the Beermen.
Bro is not the alpha here and he’s been doing well at lining up behind his more established teammates.
But in Game 2 of the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals Wednesday against TNT, Romeo took over, scoring 29 points on 71 percent shooting to help power the Beermen to a series-tying victory.
Twenty-nine are the most points he’s scored in a San Miguel uniform and one of his six triples came late in regulation when the Beermen needed one to force the first of two overtime sessions.
“Focus lang,” Romeo said.
“Kailangan kasi namin manalo eh. Kailangan locked in talaga kami, kailangan pahalagahan namin every possession,” he added.
This series is officially on and while the Beermen got the one win they needed to force the tie, it wasn’t very pretty.
San Miguel lost a 17-point lead and the Beermen were the one that had the burden to force each of the two overtimes. If they’re to pull ahead, they might need to copy TNT’s playbook in the series opener and that’s get to a good lead and actually keep it.
“Kailangan mag-stick kami kung paano kami lumamang. Ang laki na nung lamang namin eh. Nung TNT lumamang sobrang hirap kami bumalik sa kanila,” Romeo said.
“Kailangan pag kami lumamang, ganun din dapat. Kailangan hanapin namin yung mga mismatch, kung saan kami magkakaroon ng madaling atake or san kami pwede maka-score ng madali,” he added.
