RR Pogoy and the rest of TNT outgunned San Miguel by a margin of 15-8 in terms of total threes
RR Pogoy has finally broken out of his shooting slump in the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals.
After only a combined 30 points on 12-of-29 shooting in Games 1 and 2, he torched the nets for 29 points on 10-of-19 shooting.
More importantly, after only a combined 3-of-14 clip from deep in the first two games, he hit 5-of-9 in the crucial contest.
For the Gilas Pilipinas gunslinger, however, his personal best in the championship round matters much less than the bounce back win. "Ang pinakaimportante, nanalo kami. Bonus na lang yung maganda laro ko kasi gusto talaga naming mag-bounce back," he told reporters after TNT's 115-105 victory versus San Miguel, Friday at Araneta Coliseum.
Of course, the mighty rebound has much to do with their three-point shooting as, in all, they shot 15-of-38 compared to their opponents' 8-of-26.
That was also the case in Game 1, also a win for them, when the KaTropa dominated triples, shooting 13-of-38 as compared to their opponents' 5-of-24. "Importante talaga yung three-points sa amin para (masagot) yung sona nila kasi kung hindi kami nakaka-shoot sa labas, siguro, puro sona na lang sila all the way at ang hirap nun," Pogoy said.
That is exactly why Pogoy and company plan to do nothing but keep bombing away from deep. As he put it, "Hindi lang sa akin, kundi para sa lahat, challenge talaga. Mahihirapan talaga kami pag naka-zone sila, ang lalaki pa naman nila."
