June Mar Fajardo finally went to work in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals.
The league’s reigning five-time MVP had his most impactful game in these Finals, helping carry the Beermen to a crucial Game 4 win over TNT to force a 2-2 tie.
Fajardo did his best work in the third period, scoring five straight baskets as San Miguel Beer landed its most significant run to turn the game in their favor.
June Mar finished wit 22 points, 16 in the second half.
“Kailangan ko umis-score kasi hinahanap na ako eh,” Fajardo said.
“Kahit nagmi-mintis ako, hinahanap pa rin nila ako. Binibigyan nila ako ng kumpiyansa, so kailangan ko suklian yung tiwala nila,” he added.
After TNT made it a two-point game with 40 seconds to go, Fajardo also conspired with Chris McCullough for a clutch hit that helped put TNT away.
Avoiding the double team, McCullough found June Mar for an layup and a 100-96 lead. The Beermen did all their clutch work without a timeout for pretty much all of the last two minutes.
“Hindi madali para samin yung series na to, Finals eh. Every game talaga, kailangan mo kunin sa kanila yun,” Fajardo said.
“Buti nakuha namin yung panalo, ang hirap kasi mabaon sa 3-1,” he added.
