Numbers never lie but they don’t necessarily tell all of the story.
Still, it’s pretty undeniable that when Alex Cabagnot plays well, the San Miguel Beermen find success, especially in these 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals.
In the two San Miguel losses to TNT KaTropa, Cabagnot scored a combined six points.
In the two San Miguel wins, Cabagnot scored a combined 44, including 25 during Sunday’s crucial Game 4 win.
Despite this however, Cabagnot refuses to name himself as the Beermen’s barometer, saying if they’re to win this championship, they’re gonna have to win it together and not just rely on one man.
“I hope not. It’s a team effort. Everybody has to pull their own weight,” Cabagnot said on him being San Miguel’s barometer for winning in these Finals.
“Everybody has to pull their weight first and foremost and it shouldn’t determine on one player’s plus or minus or activity on the court. I don’t wanna think about it like that [barometer], pero tulung-tulong lang,” he added.
Scoring a crucial Game 4 win to force a 2-2 tie, Cabagnot and the rest of the Beermen now move on to Game 5.
San Miguel Beer is yet to lead in these Finals but that won’t matter in the long run as long as they ended up with the upper hand after a maximum of seven games.
“Two great teams are trying to battle it out and ganun talaga. Ganun talaga naman talaga yung series. The series is, you know, you’re just trying to extend, trying to stay alive,” Cabagnot said.
“Hopefully sa dulo, it’s God’s will that we win. Pero at this moment, we just have to keep our head down and go back to the drawing board,” he added.
