PBA: Batang Pier net 2019 Governors' Cup debut win

NorthPort weathered a late game onslaught by Rain or Shine to open the 2019 PBA Governors' Cup on a high note, 99-94, Friday at the MOA Arena.
Batang Pier got a scare from the Elasto Painters after their once imposing 24-point lead was trimmed down to three, 94-97, after a Chris Exciminiano layup with three ticks left.
Robert Bolick made it a two-possession game after sinking two charities as NorthPort finished off Rain or Shine.
“A win is a win kahit medyo pangit lang,” said Batang Pier coach Pido Jarencio.
Mychal Ammons had 25 points and 19 rebounds to lead NorthPort while got 20 markers in in 7-of-15 field goal shooting.
The Batang Pier posted their biggest lead, 70-46, with 8:05 in the third quarter off an Ammons completed three-point play.
The Elasto Painter didn’t get their game going until late in the fourth period.
Joel Wright posted 22 points and 14 boards for Rain or Shine while Rey Nambatac had 19 markers.
