Masaya na na-welcome ulit ako sa PBA -- Kiefer Ravena after coming back from an 18-month ban
Eighteen long months of waiting to get back on court and play in the PBA is no joke for NLEX guard Kiefer Ravena.
So when his much-awaited return came on Saturday, the sophomore made the most out of it.
Ravena roared back after a year and a half FIBA suspension and reintroduced himself with a stellar game in the Road Warriors’ 123-116 victory over Phoenix in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup at the Big Dome.
“Got that monkey off my back in the PBA,” said Ravena, who completed serving his ban last August 24 that made him eligible to play for the national team in the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China weeks ago.
The 2017 second overall draft pick poured in 20 points highlighted by 13 markers in the first quarter he tallied from four treys. Ravena shot 6-of-17 from the field.
“I'm just happy doon sa supporters who came out na manood ng live, and mga nasa bahay na nanood. Para sa kanila lang naman to,” he added. “Hopefully, ma-feel nila ang appreciation ko with their support the way I play the game.”
Ravena grabbed nine boards and had seven assists and three steals in 38 minutes of play.
The NLEX star last played in the PBA back in May 2018 before receiving the news of his FIBA suspension after testing positive on a banned substance in his urine sample taken during the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifier against Japan February last year.
His first official game back from the long ban was in August 31 in Gilas Pilipinas’ game against Italy in the FIBA World Cup.
“Masaya na na-welcome ulit ako sa PBA,” said Ravena. “It's been a while talaga noong nakapaglaro ako dito sa liga. I'm just happy more than anything else that we got the win.”
