“Di pa namin nakakalaban yung elite teams, Ginebra, SMB, TNT. So yung mga yon, 50-50 kami doon eh. So kailangan yung mga ganitong game, kailangang pukpok kami.” — Ian Sangalang after Magnolia’s win over Alaska Sunday. (PBA)
As the reigning and defending PBA Governors’ Cup champions, pressure is a given for the Magnolia Hotshots.
However, if the team is to continue winning games with hopes of keeping their championship, they’ll need to fight off pressure as much as they fight off challengers in the season-ending joust.
“Syempre, defending champion kami, may pressure,” forward Ian Sangalang said.
“Pero wag dapat naming ilagay yon sa isip namin, kasi kailangan naming manalo, as long as we can,” he added.
With a victory over the Alaska Aces Sunday, the champs got their first winning streak and improved to a 3-1 record.
Now, it’s important for the Hotshots to keep winning to get that top-4 spot in the playoffs and the twice-to-beat edge that comes with it.
“For us kasi, very important yung good start this conference. Sabi ko nga, top-4, twice-to-beat,” Sangalang said.
“Di pa namin nakakalaban yung elite teams, Ginebra, SMB, TNT. So yung mga yon, 50-50 kami doon eh. So kailangan yung mga ganitong game, kailangang pukpok kami,” he added.
