Barangay Ginebra just barely avoided another meltdown in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup.
The Gin Kings ended San Miguel’s undefeated streak, picking up a huge 129-124 win Sunday at the Big Dome.
Ginebra saw its once 18-point lead fade away in the fourth quarter as the Beermen pushed back led by super import Dez Wells.
Unlike the NLEX loss in Dubai however, the Gin Kings stood tough in the endgame, relying on their own super import in Justin Brownlee to pull through.
Brownlee finished with a second straight triple-double, dropping 28 points, 14 rebounds, and 14 assists.
JB had big local help as Stanley Pringle added 27 points, LA Tenorio had 19, and Japeth Aguilar scoring 17. Jeff Chan was also good for 15 points as Ginebra arrested a two-game slide for a 2-2 mark.
The Beermen dropped to 4-1 for a share of second place with idle NLEX.
In a sensational performance, Dez Wells put up 52 points for San Miguel in a losing effort.
Ginebra 129 - Brownlee 28, Pringle 27, Tenorio 19, Aguilar 17, Chan 15, Dela Cruz 11, Slaughter 8, Mariano 4, Thompson 0.
San Miguel 124 - Wells 52, Fajardo 16, Lassiter 16, Cabagnot 13, Ross 10, Pessumal 9, Santos 7, Standhardinger 2, Nabong 0.
Quarterscores: 35-32, 71-59, 96-85, 129-124.
