Ginebra’s Sunday clash against San Miguel Beer in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup sure had shades of Dubai.
The Gin Kings got a triple-double from super import Justin Brownlee but they were on the brink of a meltdown after leading by double-digits.
Fortunately, Ginebra learned its lessons from a 28-point collapse to NLEX in the Middle East, holding on for a huge 129-124 win against the Beernen, improving to 2-2 in the standings.
The Gin Kings built an 18-point lead in the seond half and needed all of it late in the fourth to secure the victory.
“We knew if we get up on this team, we’re gonna expect to come back. They got a lot of weapons,” Brownlee said.
“But we just knew if we stick to our defense, we can try to do whatever we can to pull it out,” he added.
In Dubai, Brownlee had a 40-point triple-double in the loss to the Road Warriors.
Against the Beermen, Brownlee finished with 28 points, 14 rebounds, and 14 assists. It may seem like Ginebra’s super import is making it easy out there but he assures it’s anything but.
“I hope it could be normal [putting up triple-doubles] but man, it’s very tough,” Brownlee said.
“Like I said, just gotta give a lot of credit to the team, they hit some shots. LA hit some big shots, Stanley had a great game, and Japeth,” he added.
