PBA: Full focus now as Blakely is final Elite import
“It’s a relief just understanding that every day I come to practice, we’re building towards playoffs and there’s no more competition. Or there’s no elephant in the room of who’s going to stay or who’s going to be the next import for the next game,” Blakely said. (PBA)

Blackwater’s final choice for import in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup is former two-time champion Marqus Blakely.

Blakely wasted little time making an impact, leading the Elite to their second win Wednesday against defending champion Magnolia.

With the team’s import situation solved, Blakely says Blackwater can build towards making the playoffs in the season-ending conference.

“It’s a relief just understanding that every day I come to practice, we’re building towards playoffs and there’s no more competition. Or there’s no elephant in the room of who’s going to stay or who’s going to be the next import for the next game,” Blakely said.

“For me, and for, I think, the players, it’s a little bit of easy sleeping at night. We now know which direction we’re going for the rest of the conference,” he added.

The Elite had two worthy options in Blakely and Aaron Fuller.

Blackwater, accounting for everything including Fuller’s ankle injury, ended up going with Blakely. Fuller will continue to rehab his injury with the team though.

“I feel like me and Aaron are two different types of players. Depending on who’s on the floor, local players have to adapt their game to the import too. I think one thing that I can bring is energy and a little wisdom when it comes to our rookies or young players on playing 48 minutes as best and as efficiently as they can,” Blakely said.

“There are certain calls or certain plays or runs that other team goes on and we can easily fall into that trap and lose a 10-point lead or let the game get out of hand. I think that’s where I can bring everybody together,” he added.
