ANTIPOLO — In a close game Friday here, KJ McDaniels took over late to push TNT past Alaska in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup.
McDaniels finished with 37 points, eight each in the fourth quarter and overtime, to lead the KaTropa to a perfect 7-0 start.
He scored the lay-up that pushed the game into OT and he drilled the triple in extra time that allowed the KaTropa to pull away for good. On top of everything, McDaniels also had 13 rebounds, six blocks, five assists, and three steals.
McDaniels' late takeover was on Alaska’s Kevin Racal.
“A little bit yeah, it fired me up,” McDaniels said after the win as the two got into a mini skirmish in the fourth quarter.
With seven minutes to go, McDaniels got hit in the face by Racal but it was KJ that was called for a technical due to second motion.
“I know it’s a competitive league and I was expecting that when I came here. Anytime anyone does that, it definitely puts a spark under me,” McDaniels said.
McDaniels vows to keep his cool next time and let his play do the talking. TNT definitely wouldn’t pull this win off if KJ was somehow ejected.
“Just gotta stay in my head and just keep fighting through and not react,” he said.
