Sometimes sliding into one’s DMs just work out fine.
Just ask Manny Harris and Kiefer Ravena.
Teammates with the Texas Legends in the NBA G-League, Kiefer helped bring Harris to NLEX for the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup.
The gamble work as Harris scored 45 in his debut game, leading the Road Warriors to solo second midway through the conference.
The entire thing happened almost exclusively on Instagram.
“Actually, nag-post lang ako about team sa Instagram and then he messaged me directly, sabi niya na, ‘Yo, is there any team looking for an import out there in the Philippines?’” Ravena said of Harris.
“At that time, we were 3-0. Sabi ko, ‘I’ll hit you up.’ Eventually natalo kami against San Miguel, Olu [Ashaolu] got hurt. Opportunities came. I think the management talked among themselves kung anong gagawin and ayun napag-usapan lang nila to change to import,” Kiefer added.
At 5-1, NLEX is in position to contend for the first time since Ravena’s very first conference.
In getting Harris to replace longtime import Olu Ashaoulu, the Road Warriors are trying to maximize their strong start.
“Nagtataka lahat, 4-1 kami pero nagpalit kami ng import,” Kiefer said.
“But I guess it’s something for us that says that we’re really going for it,” Ravena added.
