Despite being intense on the court, San Miguel import Dez Wells is usually a cool customer when it comes to the physical play in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup.
But Sunday against the Columbian Dyip, Wells lost it a little bit after taking a hit from Jackson Corpuz.
Late in the fourth quarter, Corpuz gave Wells what looked like a pretty normal bump. But since the San Miguel import was on the move, he fell to the floor hard.
Wells didn’t take the hit kindly and tried to go after Corpuz after getting up. The Columbian forward was eventually called for a flagrant foul penalty 1.
“He felt sinadya siya dahil maraming incidents na bumabagsak siya na walang foul,” head coach Leo Austria said on his high-scoring import.
“Pero yung last time na nangyari, di na niya natanggap eh,” he added.
The Beermen were once against struggling against the Dyip but were able to pull through thanks to Wells.
Dez poured 26 of his 39 points in the second half, including 18 in the fourth as San Miguel completed its rally for the win.
“Second half kumalma siya. He was very emotional nung first half, or he thought he could win by himself. But in the second half with the help of the coaching staff, they were able to talk to him and tell him to just follow our system,” coach Leo said of Wells.
“That's what happened. Talagang na-control niya yung emotion niya. Except yung isang incident,” he added.
