PBA: Big Clasico win could be Ginebra’s spark

Not only did Barangay Ginebra won Manila Clasico, they dominated Sunday.

The Gin Kings were relentless in the second half, rolling to a 22-point victory. It was Ginebra’s first winning streak in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup, right after a huge win over San Miguel last week.

Import Justin Brownlee, who barely missed a third straight triple-double, is hoping this is the spark the Gin Kings need to make a run at the top of the standings.

“I’m hoping it just gives a lot of confidence. San Miguel is probably one of the greatest teams this league ever has. Just beating them and beating the defending champions in this conference, hope it just gives us a lot of confidence,” Brownlee said.

“Losing against NLEX and Phoenix, we definitely went down about that. I think the team showed great courage and bounced back,” he added.

While Ginebra is still only at 3-2, the Gin Kings are one of only five remaining teams with two or fewer losses in the team standings.

There’s still more than enough time for Ginebra to catch up after a slow start to the Governors’ Cup.

“If we could stay in the top-4, it would definitely be a little easier road to try to get what you want to accomplish,” Brownlee said.

“We know every game is going to be tough, it’s not going to be easy, so we just try to do whatever we can to get into the top-4,” he added.
