“Just really have nothing but respect for the guy. Humble guy. Great basketball player, great human being and there’s a reason why I dunno he’s a 20-time MVP.” — Christian Standhardinger on June Mar Fajardo. (Photo by Richard Esguerra)
One of the intriguing storylines with Christian Standhardinger’s trade away from San Miguel Beer is how can he now match up with Beermen star June Mar Fajardo.
Everyone got a good look Wednesday when Standhardinger’s Northport took on, and beat, San Miguel in a close one in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup.
Standhardinger even hit the dagger jumper over June Mar in the final minute to seal the victory. He finished with 18 points to Fajardo’s 22.
“I thought I did a great job. I worked my butt off trying to stop him and he still scored 22 points and has a great percentage,” Standhardinger said.
“He’s a great, great basketball player. I have nothing but respect for him,” Christian added.
Standhardinger is all praises for his former teammate after their first game against each other.
Christian says there’s a reason why Fajardo continues to rack up the MVP awards in the PBA, he’s just that good.
“I gotta watch film to really figure out how I can do a better job against him but he’s an awesome player,” Standhardinger said.
“Just really have nothing but respect for the guy. Humble guy. Great basketball player, great human being and there’s a reason why I dunno he’s a 20-time MVP,” he added.
