Just last week, Meralco demolished San Miguel Beer by 26 points in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup.
To make sure that win was no fluke, Meralco needed to have a strong game against Barangay Ginebra seven days later.
The Bolts did just that, leading by as many as 28 points before issuing a 24-point beatdown to the Gin Kings. The victory pushed Meralco to solo third in the team standings with a 6-2 record.
“I told the guys in the beginning, if we want to validate our win against San Miguel, we had to come out tonight and play well. That’s what we did,” Durham said.
“We just try to let everybody know that we for real. We’re a real team. And I told them in the beginning, you know, we gotta let them know that that wasn’t a fluke and we gotta keep playing our game,” he added.
The Bolts are obviously on a roll, beating San Miguel and Ginebra by a combined 50 points on back-to-back games is proof of that.
However, taking down two powerhouse teams in the elimination round is not Meralco’s endgame and Durham is well aware of that.
“It don't mean nothing. We got three more games to finish the elimination round, and we wanna finish strong going into the quarterfinals,” Durham said.
“Just another step in where we're trying to go, and we gotta make sure that we validate these wins with finishing the right way,” he added.
