Barangay Ginebra was riding high as the Gin Kings entered Sunday with a four-game winning streak.
And then they ran into Meralco, their most intense rival in the PBA Governors’ Cup.
In a battle for solo third place late in the conference, the Bolts smashed Ginebra by 24 points for one of the Gin Kings’ worst losses in a while.
“Sometimes you get overconfident and you tend to relax when you have a winning streak. But I just wanna give a lot of credit to Meralco, they played a great and tough game, came out and played really well. Yeah, that’s what it was,” import Justin Brownlee said.
“They came out and played us very tough tonight, the score definitely shows it,” Brownlee added.
Ginebra’s super import anticipated a tough showdown against the Bolts but he probably didn’t expect a beatdown like this.
Brownlee also had perhaps his worst game this conference, which is some wrong timing because Allen Durham had one his best better performances for the year.
JB struggled for only 18 points for Ginebra while Durham posted 39 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists.
“Man, he played incredible,” Brownlee said of Durham.
“He scored a lot of points and rebounded, set up his teammates very well. I just got to give a lot of credit to him, he played great,” Brownlee added.
