PBA: 30 rebounds for Almazan? “Kaya, naka 24 nga ako eh”

18 points and a career-high 24 rebounds for Raymond Almazan against the Dyip. (PBA)
There’s that old saying that keeps things pretty simple in basketball: “The one who controls the rebounds, controls the game.”
Meralco’s Raymond Almazan certainly did just that Friday in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup against Columbian, grabbing a career-high 24 rebounds in a win.
He also had 18 points and two blocks for good measure.
“Nung first half aware ako pero nung second half hindi na. Kasi mabilis na rotation namin eh. Nung first half kaya dumami rebounds ko kasi sakin bagsak ng mga bola eh,”. Almazan said.
“Yun, career-high ko ata 24 eh,” he added.
There’s only been one local player in PBA history to reach the 30-rebound mark.
Asked if he can reach that feat, Almazan is pretty confident that he can. However, that’s not his main priority. Grabbing wins is the priority.
“Kaya [30 rebounds]. Naka 24 nga ako eh,” Almazan said.
“Di mahalaga yun, basta manalo kami. Yun ang mahalaga. At make the most out of it kasi nandito si AD eh, sabi nga ni coach eh pag nandito si AD, sobrang contender ng team namin. Alam ko rin naman yun before kahit nung nasa Rain or Shine ako, pag si AD nasa Meralco, iba laro ng Meralco,” he added.
