An important piece was absent for Meralco Friday as the Bolts battled Columbian in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup at the Big Dome.
Point guard Baser Amer, who has been tearing it up this conference, missed the Dyip game due to an apparent injury.
Head coach Norman Black provided the details after Meralco’s 92-74 victory against Columbian.
“The injury is a groin injury, and those are quite tricky. If you move the wrong way sometimes, you could pull it completely,” Black said of Amer.
“My feeling was we have a lot of battles down the road, so I wanted to make sure that he would be 100 percent,” he added.
With the win against Columbian, the Bolts tightened their grip at third place with a 7-3 record.
Now with an actual shot at a title, it’s pretty wise for Meralco to keep its top point guard on ice while he’s hurting.
“I'll check on him tomorrow and see how he is, and if he's not 100 percent, then we'll just save him for the next game,” Black said of Baser.
“But he's practicing,” Coach Norman added.
