TNT is most definitely feeling the absence of Jayson Castro.
In basically two games without their star point guard, the KaTropa have lost both games. TNT won seven straight with Castro leading the attack.
As such, the KaTropa have lost grip of first place in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup, dropping to 7-2 for a share of second place with sister team Meralco.
“Malaking bagay talaga, lalo na pagdating sa mga crunch time na ganun, dun mo mami-miss si kuya Jayson,” guard RR Pogoy said after TNT lost by three points to Ginebra Friday.
“Pero ganun talaga eh, di naman natin control yan na ma-injure siya,” he added.
Outy with a strained muscle, Castro is expected to return to TNT in time for the playoffs.
The KaTropa clinched their spot weeks ago, and the only question now is what seed TNT is. If the playoffs start tomorrow, the flagship MVP team is still the no. 2 seed.
With two games left in the elimination round, the KaTropa will need to recalibrate to maximize the current pieces they have available.
“I think it’s just the guys’ understanding, the shots they’re going to get. That all changed [with Castro’s injury],” active consultant Mark Dickel said.
“We desperately need his presence out there and it’s not easy for the other guys when they’ve been used to playing a certain role and now you’re asked to play a different role,” Dickel added.
