The 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup game between Northport and NLEX had a good eight-minute advantage over the UAAP Season 82 showdown between UST and UP.
And yet somehow, both games finished in real time just about the same time.
As Northport head coach Pido Jarencio took his seat for his post-game press conference following a 102-94 victory over the Road Warriors, his beloved UST was just minutes from sweeping UP to make a grand return to the UAAP Finals.
Coach Pido did just what any true Thomasian would do in the moment.
“Go USTe! Go USTe!” he screamed, chanting his school’s immortal battle cheer.
“Syempre unang-una, congratulations UST Growling Tigers. Alam niyo namang mahal na mahal ko yan eh,” Jarencio added.
As much as Jarencio loves the Growling Tigers, he’s equally beloved by the commuity.
It’s Coach Pido that led UST to its last title, which was in 2006 when the Growling Tigers survived the Ateneo Blue Eagles in three games.
The Growling Tigers will challenge the champion Blue Eagles for the UAAP Season 82 title, and Jarencio keeps it simple for his beloved UST.
Congratulations my Beloved UST growling tigers! See you in the Finals!????— pidojarencio (@pidojarencio1) November 13, 2019
“Mahal na mahal ko yang eskwelahan na yan. Congratulations,” he said.
“Against Ateneo, okay yan. Lahat naman posibleng mangyari,” Jarencio added.
