PBA: Phoenix turns focus on Calvin and offseason
After taking the no. 1 seed in the All-Filipino, the Fuel Masters missed the playoffs in the next two conferences.

With a close decision against Alaska Wednesday in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup, Phoenix’s conference is officially lost.

You can argue that Phoenix’s whole season was a lost one too.

After taking the no. 1 seed in the All-Filipino, the Fuel Masters missed the playoffs in the next two conferences.

An incredible amount of bad luck plagued the team, and as they move on to the next season, they hope thet can start fresh in the next Philippine Cup.

“Super, super [disappointed]. Pero you have to think also na ang dami rin nangyari. Yung mga bagay na yun, di ko control eh. Nag-start sa second conference kay Rob Dozier. Galing kami sa number 1, talagang expectation ko nun nandoon pa rin kami sa upper bracket because yun ang kulang namin eh, rim protector. Eh na-injure,” head coach Louie Alas said.

“Tapos si Calvin na-suspend. So mga bagay na di natin control, sana di na mangyari sa All-Filipino,” he added.

Speaking of Calvin, Abueva will be the center of Phoenix’s offseason plans.

After the Fuel Masters wrap their season up Friday, they will take a break before resuming off-court activities with Abueva at the lead as he continues to serve his indefinite suspension.

“Out na kami, so siguro pagkatapos nitong game namin sa Friday, I’ll give them one week muna,” Alas said.

"Then balik kami para sa mga outreach programs namin, especially kay Calvin,” he added.
