Northport did it the hard way, but they did it anyway.
The Batang Pier are through to the playoffs of the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup, with back-to-back wins over NLEX and Ginebra.
Northport somehow got in despite ending its elimination round schedule against two of the top four teams in the conference. The Batang Pier will be either no. 7 or no. 8 when the quarterfinals start next week.
“It’s a tough win. We had to do it the hard way, beating two top teams,” veteran forward Sean Anthony said.
“Credit to all the guys, we played great team basketball defensively and moving the ball,” he added.
The Batang Pier always seem to get all the bad breaks but despite everything, the team is in the playoffs for the third straight time this season.
Looking for a breakthrough semifinals, Northport hopes things are coming together well enough now in order to advance.
“There’s a lot of ups and downs in a season. There were injuries, I was out then Bolick got out. New import and some trades with new players. We’re finally figuring each other out and everyone’s kinda healthy now so we’re kinda hitting our stride at the right time,” Anthony said.
“We look forward to going into the playoffs with rhythm with back-to-back wins against great teams. Hopefully we’re peaking at the right time now and that’s going to be good,” he added.
