After four tries, Rain or Shine finally found its perfect import for the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup.
But it might be too late for the Elasto Painters.
Rich Ross delivered two wins for ROS, first against the Grand Slam-seeking Beermen and second against red-hot Meralco.
However, the Elasto Painters only finished the elimination round with a 4-7 mark, and ROS needs other teams to lose in order to have an outside shot at making the playoffs.
“When you get imports, it's always a gamble,” head coach Caloy Garcia started as ROS went through three other imports before landing Ross.
“We never got imports who are NBA-caliber. But we tried to look for imports who can really fit with the system and at the same time, give our locals the opportunity to shine. Rich gave us that,” he added.
Ross went 2-1 with ROS, the only loss coming against no. 1 NLEX.
In the win against the Bolts, Ross went for 26 points and 12 rebounds. If the Elasto Painters are unlucky, they need either Northport or Alaska to lose, the hope is to have Ross come back next year.
“Hopefully, whatever happens, next year he's gonna be available and we can start it from scratch. Kasi even in practice, he's always serious, he works hard, he wants to prove something, and it shows,” Garcia said of Ross.
“I think it's just getting the right fit, and we just got the right fit at the wrong time,” he added.
