Allein Maliksi played his best game so far for Meralco in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup.

With Alaska threatening a late game comeback with just two minutes left, Maliksi drilled back-to-back crucial baskets to take the fight out of the Aces and clinch the first semifinals seat on Sunday at the Big Dome.

“Finally, finally naka-contribute na din ng maganda sa team,” said Maliksi, who came to the Bolts off a trade with Blackwater last month.

Maliksi scored 23 points in the second seed and twice-to-beat-armed Meralco’s 94-84 victory.

“I have to give a lot of credit to Allein Maliksi, who probably played his best game for us so far this conference, and he really gave us a big lift offensively,” said Bolts coach Norman Black.

Maliksi hit 7-of-11 from the field with 4-of-8 coming from three-point territory to backup import Allen Durham’s near triple-double outing of 28 markers, 16 boards and eight assists.

Maliksi was particularly grateful for the trust given to him by the coaching staff.

“Binibigyan nila ako ng confidence, kasi parang naga-adjust pa ako, naga-adapt ako, medyo nahihirapan ako eh,” he said. “So, tapos nagta-try ako makipag-jell sa mga teammates ko. Sobrang thankful din ako sa mga teammates ko na they're trying to keep me motivated, na 'Keep being aggressive, play your game.' Parang, 'Yun 'yung role mo.' So, talagang pinu-push nila ako na maging better.”

Maliksi’s biggest moment of the game came late in the payoff period with the Bolts holding an 88-81 advantage as he doused cold water on the Aces’ attempt to save their conference. Maliksi scored on a lay-up to push Meralco’s lead to 90-81 before drilling another one on a putback off Baser Amer’s missed driving layup.

His late game heroics finally ended a personal semis appearance drought.

“Medyo matagal na [ang last semis]. Sa Blackwater, two years? Laging ano eh, parang one game na lang, talo sa fourth. So, laging almost semis. Last semis ko nasa Star Hotshots pa ako, Purefoods,” said Maliksi.
