PBA: Northport takes 1-0 lead after 34-point win over Ginebra

Northport’s winning streak against only two teams continue all the way to the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup semifinals.
The no. 8 Batang Pier are now the closest to the PBA title after an impressive 124-90 win against no. 4 Barangay Ginebra as the playoffs resumed Saturday at the Big Dome.
Northport, making only its second-ever appearance in the PBA semifinals, ran away for good against the Gin Kings in the fourth, earning a 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series.
The Batang Pier are now on a five-game winning streak dating back to the elimination round, the only two teams they’ve beaten is said streak are no. 1 NLEX and Ginebra.
Michael Qualls led Northport with 38 points, 27 in the first half as he led the Batang Pier's strong start.
Garvo Lanete finished with 24 points, 21 in the fourth as he shot lights out to turn a manageable game into an absolute blowout in favor of the Batang Pier.
Christian Standhardinger a nice 16-point, 15-rebound double-double for good measure.
The Gin Kings led 4-0 but that was pretty much it for them. Ginebra did have a nice run early in the third, cutting a 12-point deficit in half but Lanete's explosion wiped all of the team's good work away.
Justin Brownlee and Stanley Pringle were the only double-digit scores for Ginebra, finishing with 24 and 21 points respectively.
Game 2 is Monday back at the Big Dome.
