The biggest surprise of the 2019 PBA Draft was definitely Maurice Shaw.
He’s kind of hard to miss as he’s an imposing 6’8” and is easily the best physical specimen among all incoming rookies.
Shaw is also 34-years old but the biggest surprise about him is the fact the he went no. 2 in the opening round.
Blackwater selecting Shaw second was the team’s gamble for a new era says new head coach Nash Racela.
“It’s a good gamble. Life is a gamble, so you have to take you chances,” Racela said.
“This is not often that you see a 6’8” guy entering the Draft. We think if we got a guard in the first round, it doesn’t change much yung composition ng team,” he added.
For Shaw, he’s elated to join Blackwater.
Despite technically being a rookie, he should slide in as one of the veterans for the Elite coming into next season.
“It feels good. They got an older veteran and I got young stars. Hopefully, we can come together rand do great things for Blackwater,” Shaw said.
“I already know pretty much what they want from me, and that's to be aggressive, be a veteran, and go out there and be a monster out there. I'm too old now. Maybe I'll try to get some dunks,” he added.
