Barangay Ginebra already has a deeper lineup than Northport but the Gin Kings’ depth has been emphasized with the Batang Pier gettign beat up in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup semifinals.
In Game 3 Wednesday, a 27-point win for Ginebra, Northport only had nine players getting minutes.
Rookie Robert Bolick is done for the season with a knee injury. Kevin Ferrer and now Sol Mercado are also out.
In contrast, the Gin Kings had 11 players score to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-5 series.
“They’re beat up. I mean, look at their line-up,” head coach Tim Con said of Northport.
“They have some really key players that could really add to their depth that are out. I think that’s our advantage right now. So far, so good,” Coach Tim added.
After trading 30-point wins to start the series, Cone expected a tight Game 3.
That was obviously not the case with the Gin Kings taking over with a 132-105 victory. But for a pivotal Game 4, Cone is still wary about the Batang Pier.
“We’re looking good right now with two wins but like I said, Friday is 50-50,” coach Tim said.
“We don’t get any pogi points going into Friday for a big win,” Cone added.
