PBA: Standhardinger ready to take next step with Northport

Looks like Christian Standhardinger found his true PBA home in Northport.

In just half a conference pretty much, Standhardinger has already help lead the Batang Pier to a breakthrough semifinals in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup.

Despite eventually losing to Ginebra, 1-3, Northport became only the fourth no. 8 seed in league history to take down a no. 1 seed to advance in the playoffs.

The Batang Pier did all that while missing key players like Robert Bolick, Kevin Ferrer, and Sol Merado one by one due to injury.

“Amazing. We survived four knockout games,” Standhardinger said on their inspiring playoff run.

“We gave it our all, I’m happy. I hate losing, obviously [but] I think it’s a huge accomplishment here to be the best four teams in this conferences. This was a huge accomplishment for us. I’m very proud of us and the guys,” he added.

A good three months before the next PBA season, Standhardinger says he’s already preparing.

With a full offseason coming, Standhardinger is confident that Northport — a team with “no egos” — will be bound for some great things ahead.

“I’m ready. I’m already watching film. I’m ready. I’m going to take, like maybe a week off. I’m taking care of my body, maybe two weeks of active recovery. Then I’m going to go in there with my guys and we’re going to watch film and we’re going to know exactly how to improve it,” Standhardinger said.

“We can be a great team because we’re all humble. There are no egos and we’re just trying to figure out how to win. This was a huge step in the right direction of a winning culture. Nobody sees it because we got beat but I see it, we see it, the coaches see it, and we’re just going to keep building on that,” he added.
