ANTIPOLO — In a surprising move in the middle of the conference, TNT got its big piece in rookie Bobby Ray Parks Jr.
However, the move didn’t exactly pan out as Parks Jr.’s presence didn’t result in a PBA title, let alone a return to the Finals for the KaTropa.
Monday during the final PBA game of the decade, TNT blew a 2-1 series lead in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup semifinals, with sister team Meralco moving on to the championship round following a Game 5 win.
Parks Jr.’s future as a KaTropa hangs in the balance as TNT inherited his two-conference contract from Blackwater.
Ray is pretty much a restricted free agent moving forward, with TNT having first dibs at him for a new contract.
If Parks decides to field an offer from other PBA teams, TNT also gets the right of first refusal.
“Depende. Baka mag-bago pa. Baka mag-bago rin ang isip niya, mag-bago ang isip namin,” TNT head coach Bong Ravena said on the team’s Parks situation.
“Tignan namin, assess namin lahat. We have to sit down and think kung ano pa ang kailangan ng team,” he added.
Already playing for two PBA teams in less than a full season, Parks says his future with TNT wasn’t discussed heavily during the conference.
The goal was the get to the Finals and win after all. But now that that’s no longer the case, Ray’s future will have to be discussed that’s for sure.
“Wala pa namang sinabi. For the most part, we wanted to win this and try to make it to the Finals. Pero wala pa naman na-mention,” Parks Jr. said.
“Hopefully naman, God willing. Blessing naman to be in TNT and to play in the PBA, for any team,” he added.
