After losing the 2016 and 2017 PBA Governors’ Cup Finals to Barangay Ginebra, Meralco will be bringing in quite a few back-ups for the 2019 title series.
The biggest piece is Raymond Almazan, who should fix the gaping hole the Bolts have in the middle.
That’s Almazan’s main role and he knows it. He plans to deliver as the Bolts gear up for another Finals showdown against the Gin Kings.
“At least ngayon matatapalan ko na yung butas nila inside the paint,” Almazan said on his role in Meralco.
“Lagi nilang sinasabi malaking bagay, para sa akin blessing ito na na-trade ako sa Meralco tapos after two conferences, nasa finals agad. It was a good sign for me na siguro makabalik talaga and makapag-champion sana ulit,” he added.
Despite clearly having a key role in the Bolts’ title hopes, Almazan refuses to call himself as Meralco’s missing piece.
After him, the Bolts did add another scorer in Allein Maliksi and rookie Bong Quinto has found his groove. Pretty much everyone playing behind Allen Durham will be key two winning the title says Almazan.
“Additional lang ako eh, alam naman natin na kailangan nila ng big man,” Raymond said.
“Thankful na ako doon. Hindi ko nilalagay sa ulo ko na ako yung kailangan, hindi. All of our teammates kailangan mag-contribute this Finals,” Almazan added.
