Christian Standhardinger to Northport has netted immediate results.
Not only did Standhardinger help tow the Batang Pier to the semifinals of the 2019 Governors' Cup as a no. 8 seed, the former top pick has also won his first-ever Best Player of the Conference award.
Standhardinger was the runaway winner for the BPC and he received his trophy Wednesday at the Big Dome.
It's Standhardinger's first major individual award in the PBA. He also has two titles with San Miguel Beer.
"First of all, I have to really appreciate my teammates. They put me in a great position. It was so much fun last conference to play with them and fight with them," he said.
"I feel like this is more of a team award than it is anything else, and I'm really just thankful to my coach in Northort and to my teammates that it worked out. I'm honored," Standhardinger added.
Getting out of San Miguel helped Standhardinger's rise.
The Fil-German forward was averaging just 3.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in four games with the Beermen this conference.
For Northport, he went full beast mode, going for 22.7 points, 12.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.4 steals.
His short stint with the Batang Pier so far is highlighted by a 33-point, 23-rebound performance in a knockout game with top-ranked NLEX in the quarterfinals that lasted three overtimes.
Standhardinger played 61 minutes in that win, which is now the record for most minutes played by a local player in PBA history.
"Obviously a guy who plays 40 minutes, it's easier to score 20 points a game than when you play 10 or 15 minutes. Of course it does play a role," Standhardinger said on his trade to Northport.
"I think a lot of guys did it already that did not have that much playing time, so everything is possible but I would lie if I say that it would not play a role because you accumulate more stats and you can show more people in a longer amount of time that you are a good player, plus you can help carry youra little bit more," he added.
