Japeth Aguilar is just getting better.
One of Ginebra's longtime anchors, Aguilar got his best individual award for his PBA career after winning Finals MVP in the 2019 PBA Governors' Cup.
Japeth was a key part in Ginebra's 4-1 series win over Meralco to regain the Governors' Cup championship, averaging 17.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.4 blocks.
"Coming into this series, tinake on ko yung challenge," Aguilar said.
"Alam naman namin yung strength ni [Allen] Durham, so for me talgang focus lang ako sa role ko. Just thankful sa basketball gods kasi it went our way," Japeth added.
As the star for the barangay with his new Finals MVP award, Aguilar keeps himself grounded, saying it's always the championship that matters most.
Him winning this award, on top of a new title, is just part of a long maturation process for Japeth as a basketball player.
"For me, mas importante yung goal which is the championship. Lahat kami may kanya-kanyang part sa kampeonato na to. Ginawa ko lang yung part ko," he said.
"It's just maturity talaga. It's just learning, never stopping from growing sa lahat ng mga conferences na minsan we fall short of our goals. Keep on learning lang talaga," Aguilar added.
