In a stunning Instagram post over the weekend, Slaughter announced that he's taking a leave from basketball as his contract with Barangay Ginebra expires.
His absence is a huge blow as Ginebra gears up for a Philippine Cup title run.
"Obviously, his absence in the All-Filipino would be a big blow to the team and his teammates," Ginebra head coach Tim Cone said.
"Contrary to some reports, I did know Greg was contemplating taking a break from basketball," coach Tim added.
With a full month before the start of the new PBA season, Coach Tim says he plans to talk with Slaughter to hash out his contract and basketball future.
“We discussed it during our exit meeting immediately following the championship, and I hope to discuss it further in the next couple of days,” Cone said.
Last season, Slaughter averaged 9.6 points and 6.4 rebounds for the Gin Kings.
