PBA:
San Miguel has lost star center June Mar Fajardo to a broken leg and he could be out for the season as he works his way back to full health.

For the first time in a long, long while, San Miguel might actually be an underdog heading into a new PBA season.

This is despite the Beermen entering the 2020 Philippine Cup as the defending 5-time champions.

San Miguel has lost star center June Mar Fajardo to a broken leg and he could be out for the season as he works his way back to full health.

"Actually, talagang mahirap ngayon for SMB," team governor Robert Non said Tuesday,

"This is the first time na ng feeling namin, kami ngayon ang underdog because of June Mar. June Mar's been part and parcel of our championships," he added.

Since drafting him first overall in 2012, June Mar's been a part of eight championship teams for San Miguel.

Fajardo also has five, possibly six, MVP awards as member of the Beermen.

With arguably its greatest player out, San Miguel is still strong in its resolve as it looks to win a 6th straight All-Filipino title this year.

"Naniniwala pa rin ako na we can come up with something na kahit wala si June Mar, we can be competitive, especially now that we have some adjustments that we're doing in the absence of June Mar," Non said.

"And hopefully, it will work and we'll be there fighting again for the championship," he added.
