Meneses won as Mayor of Bulakan during the 2019 mid-term elections. He previously lost twice a vice mayor candidate in the same town.

Since COVID-19 forced Luzon into enhanced community quarantine, more than a number of PBA personalities have done their part in helping the frontliners and those greatly affected by the coronavirus.

Others, like Vergel Meneses, are actually doing their part as a frontliner.

Meneses, the former PBA MVP in 1995 is on his first term as mayor of Bulakan in Bulacan and he's already fighting his greatest fight as a politician.

"Napaghandaan naman natin ito, at tulong-tulong naman kami dito sa Bulakan," Meneses told the league website.

"Mahigpit kami, at talagang tulong-tulong," he added.

In the Department of Health's latest tally accurate as of March 29, 2020, the Philippines has 1,418 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Meneses' town has one confirmed case of COVID-19 through Sunday.

In an effort to strictly enforce the enhanced community quarantine, Meneses' administration has distributed food packs to 20,000 households.

Some of the packs are coming out of his own pocket.

"Okay lang yan. Importante okay ang mga tao dito sa amin, at matagal ko naman nang ginagawa iyan bago pa ako maging mayor," Meneses said.

Meneses won as Mayor of Bulakan during the 2019 mid-term elections. He previously lost twice a vice mayor candidate in the same town.

In the PBA, Mayor Vergel was the 1995 MVP and is a former 3-time champion. He coached the JRU Heavy Bombers in the NCAA.
