Even years since he last played for the University of the Philippines, Paul Desiderio has not forgotten to serve the people.
Desiderio himself, along with fiancee Agatha Uvero, procured nine sacks of rice to help out those in need in Quezon City in the face of the continuing COVID-19 crisis.
And the couple themselves were the one who went around and distributed sacks of rice to barangay officials of UP Village, Teachers Village East, and Dagohoy and plastic bags of rice to homeless persons in Quezon City Circle and Quezon Avenue.
"Kami ni Agatha, we always say na kapag may blessings, pay it forward lang," the 5-foot-11 guard who made his name as "Mr. Atin 'To" in the Diliman-based school said. "Naisip lang namin na napakaswerte naming nakaka-stay home kami kaso maraming nagugutom. Siyempre, 'di enough yung maawa lang kaya gusto talaga naming may magawa kahit papaano."
Desiderio then went on to say that this will not be a one-time thing. As he put it, "Yung iba, nagulat kasi may kotse na tumitigil tapos nung inabot na yung bigay, makikita mong talagang tuwang-tuwa sila. May nagsabi pa na 'Pagpalain po kayo.'"
He then continued, talking about when he was growing up in Liloan, Cebu, "Dun ako naiyak kasi alam ko yung pindadaanan nila. Magdadagdag pa kami bukas at sa mga susunod na araw."
Apparently, the now-Blackwater Elite guard, who owns a Chooks-to-Go stall, was inspired by company big boss Ronald Mascarinas.
"I really admire boss Ronald kung paano siya magbigay ng balik sa community," Desiderio said, referring to Mascarinas and company's efforts to help out from the onset of the pandemic.
