PBA: 9 a.m Meralco workouts helped bond Baser-Jimmy
— Baser Amer.

Before he retired from the PBA for good, Jimmy Alapag spent one season with the Meralco Bolts.

Jimmy was on the team when Meralco made its first-ever Finals appearance in the 2016 Governors' Cup.

Also with the Bolts at that time was rookie Baser Amer and in that particular season, the former San Beda Red Lion became the understudy of Alapag at point guard.

Despite only spending one season as teammates, Baser sure learned some valuable lessons from the PBA great.

One lesson stood out.

"Yung sipag," Amer said on 2OT.

Halos everyday yun, 9 a.m. nandoon na siya," he added.

Alapag was 39 when he was a Meralco Bolt and yet, he was beating pretty much everyone to the gym.

Young Baser immediately took notice and asked to join Alapag in his early workouts. Jimmy naturally obliged.

"The following day talagang kinausap ko siya, kung pwede ba sumabay. 9 a.m. nasa Meralco na kami then practice 1 p.m. pa, so nagawa na namin dapat namin i-improve," Amer said of Alapag.
