Cool Smashers out to prove strength in PVL
Can Alyssa Valdez's magic deliver glory to Creamline?

With the arguably most popular local volleybelle leading the way alongside a pair of top foreign imports and with a mix of young and veteran players, all eyes are on Creamline as it tries to claim the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference title.

Alyssa Valdez’s magic is expected fuel to Cool Smashers’ campaign while American import Laura Schaudt, a US NCAA Division 1 player who played for Oregon State, and Thai reinforcement Kuttika Kaewpin provide the extra kick and firepower Creamline needs.

The Cool Smashers are also banking on young guns NCAA Rookie of the Year Francesca Racraquin, Perpetual Help standouts Coleen Bravo and Jamela Suyat, Jonalyn Ibisa and veterans Pau Soriano, setter Janet Serafica, Ivy Remulla and former national youth team member Joyce Palad.

With a formidable roster and a charismatic leader in Valdez, the Cool Smashers are poised to make a great impact in the league.

"But what's important is teamwork," said Creamline assistant coach Oliver Almadro, the main lieutenant of head coach Tai Bundit. "Even if you have a strong lineup, what's important is the teamwork and the camaraderie, the positive outlook of the team."

Valdez, a three-time UAAP Most Valuable Player and two-time UAAP champion, is regarded as this generation’s best local player and is coming off a successful stint in Thailand playing for Thai club team 3BB Nakornnont.

“Alyssa is very helpful with her teammates. Lahat ng natutunan niya (in Thailand), she shares with her teammates,” said Almadro. “Malaking bagay sa team kapag mayroon kang leader and player na may experience and she's really willing to share it with the team.”

Creamline opens its campaign against Perlas on Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Game time is at 6:00 p.m.

The opening playdate will air live over S+A Channel 23, S+A HD Channel 166 and via livestream.

Games are every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
