Behind Dzi Gervacio, Perlas powered through a 23-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-21, victory for its first win of the new PVL tournament.
Alyssa Valdez took the battle but Perlas Volleyball won the war.
After the former three-time UAAP Most Valuable Player led her Creamline crew in a sensational comeback in the opening frame, Perlas went to work and swept the next three sets to open its Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference campaign Sunday at the San Juan Arena.
Behind Amy Ahomiro and Dzi Gervacio, Perlas powered through a 23-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-21, victory for its first win of the new tournament.
"We just reminded each other na 'Guys, kailangan natin ng killer instinct,'" Gervacio said after her team lost the first set.
"We were up by how many points, and then sa dulo pa kami kinapos. Yun lang, medyo nagre-relax, we take for granted yung lamang namin, and we wanted to take advantage ng lamang namin. Just a reminder to ourselves na if we're gonna do well, do well na all the way, wala ng relax-relax," she added.
Ahomiro led the Perlas offense with 17 points on 10 attacks, two blocks, and five aces while Gervacio, who spent her final two season in Ateneo playing with Valdez, was good for 13 points behind 12 attacks.
Former UP Lady Maroons Kathy Bersola and Nicole Tiamzon added nine and seven points respectively.
Making her first game back in the Philippines after a stint in Thailand, Valdez led the Cool Smashers with 25 points on 23 attacks.
Tense moments marred her incredible offensive performance though as the Phenom suffered cramps in the middle of the third set only to brush it off and come back moments later much to the delight of the pro-Creamline crowd.
Pau Soriano backed up Alyssa with 10 points in a losing effort.
