Lady Warriors target second win
Pocari Sweat wants to start at winning run in a collision with Perlas.

After ending a two-game slump, multi-titled Pocari Sweat will try to spark a winning run when the Lady Warriors face off with the Perlas Spikers Tuesday in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Opening serve is at 4:00 p.m. and will air via livestream. It will air on May 9, Wednesday, 6 p.m. on S+A channel 23 and S+A HD channel 166.

With an intact core, which won the V-League’s Open and Reinforced Conferences last year, and a beefed up roster after adding three key players, expectations on the Lady Warriors are high.

However, Pocari Sweat stumbled down early after losing two straight games - all via humiliating sweeps.

Myla Pablo stopped the bleeding last Saturday with an explosive performance that saw her drop 23 points coming off 18 attack, three aces and a pair of kill blocks in Pocari Sweat's convincing 25-22, 25-14, 25-22, win over the Philippine Air Force Jet Spikers.

The Lady Warriors and the Power Smashers are tied with 1-2 slates.

Pablo will need the help of Elaine Kasilag, Desiree Dadang, Maricar Nepomuceno and the newcomer trio of Jeanette Panaga, Fille Cainglet-Cayetano and Jessey De Leon for Pocari Sweat to stand a chance against Perlas.

The Spikers sit at solo second spot with a 2-1 card behind unbeaten BaliPure (3-0).

Perlas bounced back from a five-set setback against the Jet Spikers with a close-shaved 29-31, 24-26, 25-19, 25-23, 21-19, win over the gritty Power Smashers.

Amanda Villanueva and Kathy Bersola stepped up for the Spikers with 18 markers each the last time out.

Aside from the duo, Perlas will bank on their seasoned skipper Dzi Geevacio, Amy Ahomiro, Suzanne Roces, Nicole Tiamzon and setter Jem Ferrer to seize its first back-to-back wins.

Meanwhile, Cignal (1-0) looks to join early leaders Sta. Elena and Philippine Army when the HD Spikers take on the winless Café Lupe at 1:00 p.m. in the men’s division.
