Power Smashers ground Jet Spikers in straight sets
The Power Smashers destroyed Philippine Air Force in straight sets for their first back-to-back wins.

The Power Smashers closed the first round of eliminations on a high note after a quick work of Philippine Air Force, 25-23, 25-20, 25-22, Thursday in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Banking on Arellano University duo of Regine Arocha and Jovielyn Prado and University of Sto. Tomas standout Dimdim Pacres, the Power Smashers snatched their first back-to-back wins in the conference for a 3-2 win-loss record.

Prado hammered 13 attacks in her total of 16 points while Pacres scored all but one of her markers off kills for the Power Smashers, who unleashed 44 attack points with only 17 errors in the 78-minute match. Arocha and another Arellano star Andrea Marzan scored 10 each.

“Medyo nu’ng last two games sabi ko nga, medyo kulang sa endurance so sabi ko kailangan mas tumaas pa kami sa laban eh,” said Power Smashers coach Nes Pamilar.

The seasoned mentor added that they took advantage of their youth and athleticism to speed up the game and put pressure on the veteran crew of the Jet Spikers, who just couldn't keep up with the younger Power Smashers.

“Sinasabi ko nga na yung mga players ko ngayon, mga active players pa hanggang ngayon, mga naglalaro sa school nila,” he said. “Yung kalaban namin siyempre ang iba d’yan nagta-trabaho. Kailangan namin na mas maging mas tumagal kami sa laban.”

Air Force absorbed its third straight loss in five games to remain down the cellar.

May Ann Pantino had 16 points while Iari Yongco finished with 12 for the Jet Spikers.
